About Filmmaking Partners
Filmmaking Partners evolved from the First Light Studio Awards. The two-year programme (running from September 2004) was intended to provide organisations with the time and funding for development and experimentation to produce a wider schedule of filmmaking activities and to use them to network effectively with industry and screen agency contacts to ensure that the young people involved receive a broader experience of the elements of filmmaking.
Each of the twelve Filmmaking Partners were offered a maximum of £50,000 to support activity over a two-year period. Organisational support and continued professional development was integral to their proposal.
Filmmaking Partners undertook a series of activities and sustainable opportunities leading to film production in collaboration young people. They made up to four short films across the course of the two years. The Filmmaking Partners also ran additional activities such as taster workshops, screening events, master-classes, set visits, attending film festivals, film clubs which engaged a minimum of 50 young people across the period of two years. The aim was to put what the young people were doing into a wider, industry context, to offer them work placement opportunities and networking.
The Filmmaking Partners worked in partnership with a local professional production company to access skilled filmmaking professionals to work with the organisation and to offer the young people further film experiences.

A Walk in The Park

Three young people are attending an Art Therapy class. When Phil, the supervisor, has to leave the room, tensions build among the group. This slick psychological thriller takes us on a journey into paranoia with the inevitable scary conclusion.

Hysteria
STOP What does this mean?
The posters for the club night Hysteria, boasts a new DJ who could breathe life into the town’s old nightclub. However the dreams of a group of young clubbers are shattered when the evening turns into a horrific nightmare! Classic horror techniques are executed as the action follows the mysterious unseen perpetrator.

A short shaggy dog story about Charlie who recalls his happy life at home before his world is turned upside down.

Mummy's Favourite Shoes
PAUSE What does this mean?
This horror short focuses on a little girl who plays all day in her mummy’s favourite red shoes. Every night she loses one of the shoes under her bed and must search in the darkness to retrieve it. There are many near encounters with the creepy inhabitant under the bed and the tension builds up as we catch glimpses of his blood stained elongated finger nails and monster-like features!

The 'Stute
PLAY What does this mean?
The ‘Stute is about Oakdale Miners Institute which was moved from its original site to the National History Museum in the St. Fagan’s area of Cardiff. Through original voice recordings of people who lived in Oakdale, the film relives the days when the ‘Stute was a thriving institution and cultural centre of the community. These recording were the starting point for this touching animated film about the Institute and all the emotional stories that were once wrapped up inside it.

The Rag Doll Girl
PAUSE What does this mean?
Accompanied by a foreboding and poetic voice-over, this stylish and well produced film explores a creepy fable about a girl who has become nothing more than a ragdoll, held together by pins and bones, unable to join her friends in the ghost world. With a strong score and convincing performances, twelve young people created this chilling short horror film.
