Mastering Your Craft: First Assistant Directing with Dan Winch
Film Nation: Shorts and BAFTA present a free masterclass with Dan Winch, a First Assistant Director whose credits include BAFTA-nominated Tyrannosaur, Birdsong, Stolen, The Crimson Petal and The White, Appropriate Adult, Boy A and Mark of Cain. Dan also worked on acclaimed director Lynne Ramsey’s short film The Swimmer, commissioned for London 2012. Join Dan at Chapter Arts in Cardiff as he talks about the work of the First AD, how he works with the creative departments in production, and the skills which might help with a career on-set. Dan will take us behind the scenes on the challenges and processes of this key industry role, followed by an audience Q&A.
Run in partnership with Panasonic, Film Nation: Shorts introduces young people to film-making, supports them in developing their talent, and films produced during the project are screened around the UK. Winning films will be screened in front of the crowds in venues during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012. www.filmnation.org.uk
