Echoes of Success

Echoes is a documentary film project by young people aged 13-19 recruited from Sefton Youth Service in Merseyside. The project, co-ordinated by Twin Vision, looks at the different experiences of human loss via criminal activity through the eyes of young people who have been or are at risk of offending behaviour.

Three films were written and created by the young people, and each reveals a story about loss, and how this has motivated the character that has suffered a loss.

The films have been very successful; Echoes of Road Loss is one of 7 films that has been selected for Young Liverpool Film Night at FACT on the 23rd October and Echoes of Substance Abuse was screened in Croatia in August at the Four River Film Festival.

The young people’s confidence and motivation has noticeably improved as a direct result of the project, and several of the participants have decided to pursue studies and careers in film production and media studies.

Paul McCann, project mentor, Twin Vision, says:

“There was a visible increase in confidence, as all film makers became confident enough to give their thoughts, or statistics to camera, and this was a massive achievement for many of them who have grown massively throughout the film making process….

….Many of the young people we worked with are low achievers at school and have low levels of attention. However, because the project dealt with issues that were pertinent to themselves, and they met interesting and inspiring people they were able to fully engage in the content of the project”.
