Getting your foot on the first rung of the film and TV industry ladder isn’t easy and can often be daunting. Designed to give you an informed insight into the film and TV industry, our intensive one day workshop will offer practical advice from industry professionals which will enable you to explore the opportunities available, and most importantly help you identify the skills you need to gain paid work in the industry.

About the Course

A full day of industry knowledge and practical advice which will cover:-

  • An introduction to the film & TV industry and the entry routes in
  • What is your brand?
  • Tips and ideas on strengthening your CV
  • Looking at interview techniques
  • Networking
  • There will also be Q&As with industry professionals and a tour around the iconic Pinewood Studios, which will last approximately 1 hour.
    Pinewood has been home to some of the most successful feature films and TV shows ever made and has recently hosted Les Miserables, Prometheus, Great Expectations, Skyfall, Snow White and the Huntsman, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Captain America: The First Avenger; X-Men: First Class, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

You will come away with a greater understanding of the varied employment opportunities within the film and TV industry and the steps you need to take in order to establish yourself within it.

10.30am – 6.30pm Wednesday 6th February 2013
Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire

Cost

£150.00 per person for the intensive one day course at Pinewood Studios.
Participants can pay in installments but the full amount will need to be received by 31st January.

  • Q&As with industry professionals
  • One-to-one feedback on your CV

Bursary place

We have one bursary place to offer to a young person who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend due to costs. Download the ‘Bursary Application Form’ document on the right hand side for details and to apply. You do not need to fill in the Registration Form if you are applying for a bursary.

The deadline for bursary applications is 5pm on Friday 11th January.

Who Should Attend

Anyone 18 or over who wants to find out about working in the film and TV industry!* The workshop will combine practical exercises, discussions and guest speakers in an informal and relaxed environment. We want you to enjoy the experience, feel comfortable to ask questions and feel engaged throughout the day.

*Please also note that whilst actors are very welcome, the event is not aimed at on-screen talent.

To Book

Download and complete a registration form (or bursary form) from the right hand side and email it to SL@firstlightonline.co.uk with ‘Pinewood Workshop’ in the subject line. You will then be sent an email with details of payment options, which include BACs or cheque.

Places are allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Once your payment has been processed, you will be sent a confirmation email containing further information including how to get to Pinewood Studios.

You will also need to send in a current version of your CV in advance of the training day. This helps us structure the day and enables us to provide feedback to you in a CV clinic.

About First Light

Pinewood’s nominated charity First Light has over 10 years experience helping young people break into the UK film industry. The organisation has extensive experience of working with industry professionals and championing young filmmakers’ work from across the UK. First Light has helped young people secure work placements on Les Miserables, Skyfall, Gravity and Ken Loach’s The Angel’s Share among others.

About the Tutor

Experienced in delivering dynamic and informative industry sessions, Yen Yau is responsible for Second Light, a skills development programme for young people aged 16-25 which provides training opportunities to support them into the film industry. Over recent years, she has been regularly providing careers advice and has run CV clinics to help participants hone and strengthen their offer to prospective employers.

Her work has focused on the development of First Light’s intervention within the cultural & commercial film sector to create further opportunities for young people. She has worked strategically with a number of industry stakeholders, commercial partners, and public agencies including: ALL3MEDIA, BBC, BAFTA, Channel 4, Bond producers EON Productions, The Pinewood Studios Group, the Regional Screen Agencies, the UK Film Council, Scottish Screen, The Script Factory and the publishers, Total Film.
