PAUSE What does this mean?

The story follows a young teenager Adrian, who is unaware that the sinister man in the elevator with him is in fact the carrier of souls, Kharon. At each level, Adrian sees a moment of his day re-enacted outside of the elevator while he stands within unable to do anything. Towards the end, he is given a choice by Kharon which will determine his final destination.
