In July 2005, John left Channel 4 Television where he had been Head of Corporate Relations since January 2000. Prior to that, he was Special Adviser to Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Chris Smith MP, from the General Election of 1997 until stepping down in November 1999. His previous jobs have included working as an executive for David Puttnam’s film company Enigma (1992-97), as a Policy Adviser to Neil Kinnock (1986-92), as a youth worker and as Director of the London programme for International Youth Year (1985).
