First Light is a UK wide organisation that uses film and media production to develop skills in young people aged up to 25. We identify talented young people from a wide range of backgrounds and enable them to achieve their potential through targeted training activities, led by film and media industry professionals that develop creative and technical production skills, as well as a range of ‘life skills’. First Light is unique in that we offer realistic progression routes for talented young people to find employment in the creative sector by working closely with industry partners.
First Light works with over 5,000 young people aged 5-25 every year, giving them the opportunity to learn the craft of high-quality short filmmaking from industry professionals using industry standard equipment. Our Second Light programme helps talented young filmmakers aged 16+ to take the next step in gaining a sustainable career in the industry.
Utilising a mixture of production training, mentoring, careers support, work experience and intensive skills development, Second Light trainees’ chances of gaining places on new entrant programmes, HE courses and paid industry employment are greatly enhanced
